Ramadan is a month for Muslims around the world. This is the ninth month of our Islamic calendar. In this month, we do some important things to feel closer to Allah.
Fasting and Gratitude
Fasting is an important aspect of Ramadan. Where we refrain from eating or drinking between sunrise and sunset. It helps us understand self-control and feel grateful for what we have.https://g.co/kgs/aHvucp7 Allah tells us in the Quran (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:183):
“O you who have believed decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous”
Suhoor and Iftar Moments
During Suhoor we eat a meal to prepare for the day. And at sunset, it’s time for Iftar. We start with dates and water, as the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) did. It’s a way of expressing thanks to Allah for the food.https://jfln.org/wp-admin/
Connecting with Allah
In Ramadan, we pray more and read the Quran. The Quran is a special book that Allah sent us. It guides us on how to live a good life. In Surah Al-Baqarah (2:185), Allah says:
“The month of Ramadan [is that] in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion.”
Charity and Kindness in Ramadan
We help others in Ramadan. This is called Zakat. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity.” (Sahih Muslim)
Giving to others helps us be better people and makes our community stronger.
Tarawih and Community Iftars
At night, we pray together in a special way called Tarawih. It’s like a special prayer party with our community. The Quran encourages praying at night in Surah Al-Muzzammil (73:1-4). We share the Iftar meal with others, following the Prophet’s words:
“Whoever provides the food for a fasting person to break his fast with, then for him is the same reward as his.” (Sahih Bukhari)
These shared meals bring us closer and make us feel like one big family.
Balancing Life in Ramadan
Sometimes it’s hard to fast and do all our regular activities. The Quran (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:286) says:
“Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear.”
Dealing with Hunger and Thirst In Ramadan
Feeling hungry and thirsty is a way to grow. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“There is Sadaqah (charity) to be given for every joint bone of the human body; and for every day on which the sun rises, there is a reward of a charitable act.” (Sahih Bukhari)
This reminds us that our struggles have a purpose.
Reflection and Gratitude In Ramadan
During Ramadan, we reflect on our lives and count our blessings. The Quran reminds us (Surah Ibrahim 14:7):
“If you are grateful, I will surely increase your favor; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.”
Expressing gratitude helps us appreciate what we have and fosters a positive outlook.
Family and Community Unity In Ramadan
Ramadan is a time for families to come together. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“Fast together and break your fast together. Strengthen the ties of kinship.”
By sharing families and communities strengthen their bonds and create lasting memories.
Seeking Forgiveness and Mercy
We pray prayers and seek forgiveness in Ramadan. We align with the Quranic guidance in Surah Az-Zumar (39:53):
“Say, ‘O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins.'”
This encourages a sense of renewal and a hopeful heart.
Making Ramadan Meaningful
Ramadan is a special time full of important actions for Muslims. By fasting, praying, reading the Quran, and helping others, we grow closer to Allah. Let’s make this Ramadan meaningful and full of blessings.
