“Allah does not take away knowledge by removing it from people, but He takes it away by taking away the scholars so that when He leaves no knowledgeable person, people turn to the ignorant as their leaders; then they are asked to deliver religious verdicts, and they deliver them without knowledge, they go astray, and lead others astray.”
This Hadith warns us about the dangers of ignorance. When we don’t seek knowledge, we can easily be misled.
Education Builds Strong Communities
When everyone seeks knowledge, that community becomes solid and prosperous. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said,
“The example of guidance and knowledge with which Allah has sent me is like abundant rain falling on the earth, some of which was fertile soil that absorbed rainwater and brought forth vegetation and grass in abundance. (And) another portion of it was challenging and held the rainwater.
Allah benefited the people with it and utilized it for drinking, making their animals drink from it and for irrigation of the land for cultivation. (And) a portion of it was barren, which could neither hold the water nor bring forth vegetation (then that land gave no benefits). The first is the example of the person who comprehends Allah’s religion and gets the benefit (from the knowledge) that Allah has revealed through me (the Prophet) and learns and then teaches others. The last example is that of a person who does not care for it and does not take Allah’s guidance revealed through me (He is like that barren land.)”
This Hadith shows us that education is like rain that nourishes the land. When we seek knowledge and share it with others, we all benefit.
Education Leads to Innovation
The Quran encourages us to reflect on the world around us and learn from it. Allah says,
“Do they not look at the camels, how they are created?” (Surah Al-Ghashiyah 88:17)
