1. Meaning of the Word “Qur’an”

The word Qur’an comes from the Arabic root قَرَأَ (qara’a) meaning to read or to recite.
Thus, Qur’an means “The Recited Book” or “The Reading”.

• Revealed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ between 610 CE and 632 CE.
• First revelation: Surah Al-Alaq (96): “Read in the name of your Lord…”
• Final revelation: Surah Al-Ma’idah (5:3) or some say Surah Al-Baqarah (2:281).

Revelation came in stages according to situations, guidance needs, and community development.

3. Language

The Qur’an is written in Classical Arabic, known for its precision and depth.
Muslims believe the Arabic wording is divinely inspired, not just the meaning.

No version or edition differences exist among Muslims globally.

The Qur’an is meant to be recited melodically with rules called tajweed.
